Zingy Orange Iced Almond Mocha

With this much needed mini April heatwave, it's finally time for my first iced coffee of the year! Cool and refreshing but with a little twist using ChocShot for a delicious sweet flavour that pairs well against the bitterness of the coffee and the creamy almond drink. It takes literally one minute and is as nice as anything you would pay at least £3 for in a coffee shop.

It also benefits by being a much healthier version that you would buy out and about. I use an unsweetened almond drink and the only added sweetness in this recipe comes from using some ChocShot Orange Spice Liquid Chocolate which you can get from Holland and Barrett or Sainsburys.

The two teaspoons in this recipe only add 28 calories and is made from natural fruit extracts so a significantly more healthy version than an iced latte out and about which is typically at least 200 calories plus!

This makes a lovely morning drink but is equally lovely made with decaff in the afternoon to sip and savour whilst sitting in the sun. I came back from a small run this morning and even by 9am it is pretty hot and I was in need of some instant refreshment. I'm really looking forward to watching the London Marathon this weekend. Hoping it will inspire me for my marathon later on in the year . Good luck to all those running it, it's supposed to be on the hottest on record. So you may need your own iced mocha at the end of it!

Orange Iced Almond Mocha (serves 1)

  • 2 tsp of Sweet Freedom Choc Shot Orange Spice Liquid Chocolate
  • 1 shot of espresso or 1 heaped teaspoon of instant coffee dissolved in 30ml hot water
  • Ice cubes to fill your glass (around 3-4)
  • 200ml of almond drink

Method:
  1. Add the two teaspoons of Orange Choc Shot to the bottom of a latte glass or smoothie glass
  2. Pour over the hot espresso an stir to dissolve it in
  3. Add in the iced cubes to fill the glass
  4. Simply pour over the almond drink (I used Provamel Unsweetened which has a high nut content for a creamier texture but works as well with any other almond drink) and give a good stir to blend the espresso into the rest of drink then sip and enjoy!
